Shael Morgan of Castaway Sauce Company is no stranger to the kitchen. “I’ve been cooking my whole life,” Shael said. “I was in the restaurant business for 25 years.” It was at her former restaurant in Tampa that she first came up with Blackbeard’s Revenge, her award-winning hot sauce. “I developed sauce for a wing challenge and it became popular,” she said.

The sauce has come along way. Blackbeard’s Revenge won 3rd place at the Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival in Texas, What makes it so special? In addition to roasted habeneros, chiles de arbol, and other different peppers, it features garlic, orange juice, spices. “It’s got flavor, it’s not just ridiculous heat,” Shael said.

Castaway Sauce Company also specializes in gourmet soups, including an award-winning seafood chowder and a New Orleans-style shrimp creole.

Shael has come a long way too. She’s now working as a working full-time as a small business owner. “There’s not much job security in this kind of thing,” Shael said. “I’m trying to build my reputation, and between the sauces and soup, I’m getting there.”
